Forensic Support Personnel
Work Opportunities for Technicians and Medicolegal Death Investigators (MDIs)
Here’s how it works with FPS:
Offices often need extra help from experienced technicians and MDIs during busy times, when there’s high turnover, low staffing, or when their teams are still learning the ropes.
Your role will depend on the office’s needs. In smaller or rural offices, you might be the only technician, which is perfect if you have lots of experience with a wide variety of cases. Here, you may be responsible for sending off tox/histo, and learning whatever case management system (CMS) the county uses. You’ll typically be working alongside other techs, supporting the Forensic Pathologists as they handle their cases, while the office techs provide computer support.
You might be asked to provide remote support, helping to gather records from hospitals or agencies. You could also be asked to be on-site, covering specific shifts when the office is short-staffed. Other requests could include occasional visits to help train younger MDIs and provide some education on best practices.
Regardless of the situation, we’ll give you all the details about the requests so you can choose what works best for you. You pick shifts that fit your schedule, and there’s no pressure if you need to say ‘no’ – you won’t lose any status with us. Plus, we’ll be there on your first day to help you settle in smoothly.
With FPS, you’ll meet and work with FPs, techs, and MDIs from various offices, expanding your network. You’ll also get to work in different systems, use various tools, and build your skills all over the USA.
